Why A Spring Detox Is The Best Self Care Ever

As you may already know I'm a big fan of self-care. Taking the best care of yourself in all ways, mentally emotionally, physically, spiritually is the best gift you can give yourself.

Self-care means no more putting yourself as an afterthought ladies. Self-care requires a true deep commitment to yourself and your growth.

Spring is a beautiful season and time of year to bring forth new growth. It's a higher energy time of year, a time of renewal.

Every year in the spring I notice a desire to 'detox'. I start to clear out things in my life that are no longer serving me. One big way is through taking much better care of my physical body so I can feel lighter and freer. I tend to want to choose more fresh foods, in season veggies and drink more herbal teas.

It's a great time of year to re-calibrate.

To let go of all the things that are in the way of allowing you to burst forth fully with the energy of spring. This is why I love devoting some time to detox every spring and let go of anything toxic holding me back.

When you give yourself this gift of detox, amazing things happen but it does require you do the work. You plan, you prep and you commit. Take your health seriously, not for granted and give it extra loving attention.

It’s so easy to shift your focus away from you and your health. I get it, life is full and you have responsibilities. If you think of it, you probably schedule to take your car in a few times of year for a tune up. You may even do some deeper seasonal house clean up or yard clean up. Think about why you'd be willing do these things but perhaps not allow yourself do the same for your body. Your body is your true home and the only one you will ever have and no one else can take care of it for you.

If you aren’t feeling your best, mentally, physically and in your emotions/moods a time focused on detox will help you shift towards feeling vibrant. You can crowd out the habits that were not serving you with new habits. Provide your body with nourishing healing foods to fuel you properly and allow the inflammation from foods that aren’t optimal to dissipate. The same is true with some of the habits you can choose to create and focus on so your body can heal more fully. Do you really need to be on the go all the time helping everyone else, or could you take some more focused time for yourself?

Here’s why I love a spring detox…

BETTER ENERGY

The action of cleansing and purifying your body through a focused time of detox helps to release stagnation, making room for revitalized easily flowing energy.


MORE MENTAL CLARITY

When you eat a diet that has healing properties and lessens the burden on your body, you make room in your mind and body for other things. This makes room for your mind to be more clear and focused.


RELEASE STUCK EMOTIONS

Also, as your body releases toxins, it also begins to release layers of emotions. Cleansing is all about getting to those deep rooted toxins and flushing them out of your system.

Some toxic feelings such as anxiety, anger and fear may surface, giving you a chance to deal with deep rooted pain. Emotions that are stored in the body can start to manifest into the physical body through aches and pains, creating a stagnant liver, depression, among other serious illnesses.

BETTER HANDLE STRESS

Alcohol, sugar, refined food and caffeine all contribute to adrenal fatigue. As you eliminate these stimulants from your diet, your precious adrenal glands get a much needed break and reboot.

The abundance of nutrients from fresh organic veggies and whole foods, along with meditation and gentle detox practices, has a nourishing and healing effect on your adrenal glands. Healthy adrenals help your body and mind cope and deal with everyday stress without getting overwhelmed.

REDUCE INFLAMMATION

By removing sugars, alcohol and other foods that are problematic for your body you will reduce inflammation. Inflammation and digestive issues, are two of the major cause of bloating, weight gain and many illnesses and disease. You can even reduce other pain in the body you tend to experience, like regular headaches or even period cramps. And of course, shed some unwanted weight in the process.
