How To Really Boost Your Energy With Detox Baths

In my last post, 'Why Detoxing in the Fall will actually make you energetic', I explained why detoxifying your body can actually help to boost your energy. The same is true for detox baths. They help to deeply clean out toxins to encourage deeper healing so your cells can function optimally. And when your cells function optimally, YOU will have more energy. It's a win-win!

So, I thought in this post I'd share with you the top reasons I do detox baths and what I use in them to support my body being able to heal deeply. Detox baths are also really great for relaxing, releasing tension and encouraging deeper sleep.

Detox baths are an excellent way to promote cleansing and can be done regularly -even daily. Any form of chronic illness or fatigue, allergies included, is a sign of a sluggish and overloaded liver. Sweating is your body's natural way of detoxifying. Soaking in hot water can assist in pulling harmful toxins from your skin.

You can assist elimination of toxins through the skin with detox baths in a gentle, non-invasive way. It's a simple as adding 1 cup of Epsom Salts to your bath.

The minerals in a detox bath will help pull toxins from your skin in a process that can be quite dehydrating, so be sure you are well hydrated going into your detox bath. It is recommended that you drink one full glass of water at room temperature before your detox bath, and one afterwards is not a bad idea either.

Here are some ingredients you can add to create a very soothing, yet cleansing detox bath for yourself.

Epsom Salts

Epsom salts are magnesium sulfate, a form of magnesium that helps to flush toxins out of the body. They also help to ease aches and pains. Add 1/2 cup per 50 lbs of body weight to your individual bath.

You can get them at your local pharmacy or online HERE.

Baking Soda

Sodium bicarbonate (or better known as baking soda) is found in nature in our oceans, soil and our bodies. But I'm sure you're more familiar with the orange box with the big arm holding a hammer that you buy from the store and stick in your fridge or pantry.

Sodium bicarbonate is a natural substance used to regulate pH as a counterbalance to acid build up and accompanying low oxygen conditions. Sodium bicarbonate is the easiest, fastest and safest way to rush oxygen to the cells. Baking soda affects the pH of cells and tissues, balances cell voltage, and increases CO2, all of which helps with oxygenation. (Source)

Essentially, it turns carbon dioxide in the stomach, which drives bicarbonates into the bloodstream that sends oxygen to the cells. Many hospitals use this natural medicine in emergency rooms, intensive care units, and even in cancer treatments. Studies have shown that baking soda can help shrink tumors and kill infections.

Many people use baking soda to help fight off a wide range of sicknesses, such as cancer, flu, diabetes, kidney disease, yeast and fungal infections, and the common cold. You can use baking soda in a variety of forms: transdermal, oral, intravenous, vaporized, in lotions and baths, via catheter, and in enemas and douches.

One easy, relaxing way to use baking soda to help your body dispel any toxins is by taking a baking soda bath.

Here are some other benefits from taking baking soda baths:

  • Detoxes and alkalizes the body
  • Absorbs heavy metals, helps detox uranium from the body
  • Absorbs radiation
  • Soothes itching and skin irritations
  • Exfoliates and smoothes skin
  • Cleans your hair
  • Relieves pain and eases vaginal yeast infections, hemorrhoids, and other delicate nether area discomforts
  • Relieves bites and burns

Baking soda is known for its cleansing ability and anti-fungal properties. I recommend it to all my clients that have elevated uranium on their hair tissue mineral analysis. Use 1-2 cups in your bath recipe to start. You can add 1 lb. or more for a more therapeutic dose -which is what I recommend for uranium toxicity.

You can get baking soda at your local grocery store, in bulk at Costco or online HERE.

Ascorbic or Citric Acid

Many people may not realize it, but tap water can contain numerous chemicals that can be dangerous to your health, including chlorine, fluoride, lead, mercury, dioxins, and many others.

Many people may use carbon block filters to remove chlorine from their water, like the filters used for drinking water. However, those filters do not always work for bath and shower water.

Ascorbic acid or Vitamin C will neutralize chlorine safely and effectively. You can use a powder form of ascorbic acid or use a Vitamin C shower filter. You can learn more about the chemical reactions here.

If you use the powder form, add one tablespoon to your bath water about three to five minutes before you get in the bath so it has time to work. Read more here.

Try adding the ascorbic acid to your bath if you don't have a whole house filter to get rid of chlorine for a truly healing bath.

You can also purchase shower filters to neutralize chlorine – here is a good one to try. You can order ascorbic acid a local pool supply company or online HERE.

Magnesium Flakes, Dead Sea Salts or Himalayan Pink Salt

Adding minerals into your bath will also help your body take them up transdermally through the skin, bypassing the digestion and liver. This is often a much more effective way to rebuild tissue stores of minerals. Since minerals are like your spark plugs, they will help with gentle detox and increasing your overall cellular energy.

I like magnesium flakes 1 cup in an adult bath. Or dead sea or himalayan pink salts about 1/4 cup in a bath. You can actually do both the mag flakes and the salt if you desire.

You can likely purchase magnesium flakes or the salts at your local health food store or Whole Foods. I buy my magnesium flakes online HERE, and my himalayan pink salt in bulk through Dead Sea salts I get at Whole Foods or online HERE.

Essential Oils

Using essential oils in a detox bath is a great way to help clear all the junk out of your system. Detoxing is a way of life, not a one-time event, and I love using essential oils daily for this reason, so I definitely include them in every bath.

My go-to essential oils to include in a detox bath:

Lemon - stimulates white blood cells to defend the body against infection. Its detoxifying and regenerating properties are beneficial for the liver and aid in bringing clarity to the mind and emotions. You can buy lemon essential oil HERE.

Grapefruit - Grapefruit is antiviral, antiseptic, diuretic, and can aid the digestive system and skin. It refreshes the mind, relieves anxiety, is reviving, uplifting, and helps disperse negative energy. Grapefruit is ideal for supporting the body in decreasing unwanted mucus during detoxification. You can buy grapefruit essential oil HERE.

Liver Blend - I  like blends to get the best out of many oils and it's a cheaper way to get numerous oils than to buy all the single oils separately. I love this one from Vibrant Blue Oils, you can order it HERE.

Add 20 drops to your bath water after the water is turned off and you are ready to get in. Swirl it around with your hand. Ideal, you want to smell the oil/s you are choosing to make sure they are appealing to you. This is just one way of helping to know which oils your body currently wants/needs to utilize. You can use a single oil or several. I often prefer a blend to get the varied benefits from different oils.

Add your ingredients of choice from the list above to your bath water, as hot as you can stand. Let it dissolve for a couple minutes before getting in. Stay in the bath for 20-30 minutes. If you feel too hot or lightheaded make sure to have a glass of water beside you and to get out of the tub very slowly. Make sure to rest afterwards. I like to do a detox bath in the evening before bed, they help me sleep really well.

If you would like take your detox efforts a step further and tackle a fall detox, I'll will be running a 14 day fall detox group program, starting November 4th. If you are interested in joining, you can get all the details HERE, as well as reserve your spot.
